Catoira is a small village situated by the Ría de Arousa. It was invaded by the Normans and Saracens seeking the treasure of the Church of Compostela. The Viking fiesta (Romería Vikinga) representing the arrival of the barbarous Vikings is celebrated on the first Sunday of August. The fiesta is declared of International Tourist Interest.
From the old windmills you can view the beginning of the Ría and the beautiful village.

You can go hiking along the river Catoira, where you can find traditional water mills, with a high ethnographic value.
You can also go for a walk or cycling along the river Ulla.
Only six kilometres away you’ll find Carril, which is famous for its clam farms and the beautiful island of Cortegada.

Cambados (15km), cradle of the author Ramón Cabanillas, has the best Albariño wineries where you can taste excellent wines and seafood.

Padron (10 km land) is the village of Rosalía de Castro and Camilo Jose Cela, also known for its little green peppers.

Combarro (30km) is a typical Galician village with precious granaries by the Ría.

Santiago, a thousand-year-old town with its majestic cathedral, is only 20 minutes away by car. Santiago is the capital of Galicia.

In an excursion to the Islas Cies you can go hiking, enjoy its heavenly beaches and unique biodiversity.
You can visit the most beautiful Celtic castros (village) in Baroña.

In Corrubedo there are the largest dunes in Europe and in addition, a unique biodiversity.
